Landnýting
A large scale high-tech greenhouse project in Iceland.
01 / The project
Growing tomatoes.
Building a new industry.
Halldór founded Landnýting ehf. with Þorkell Sigurlaugsson in 2022. Þorkell was the company’s managing director for its first three years. Today the project is Halldór’s full-time focus, as Founder and Board Member.
The first phase is planned around tomato cultivation in high-tech greenhouses. The wider ambition is to build a lasting export industry in Iceland, with production in a controlled environment and an emphasis on quality and dependable supply. Development is planned in phases and remains in progress.
02 / CULTIVATION & OPPORTUNITY
Why Iceland
Year-round cultivation
A controlled growing environment and automation would make it possible to produce consistently throughout the year, rather than depend on the short Icelandic growing season.
An export opportunity
The aim is to develop food production for international markets, with an emphasis on quality, reliable supply and sustainability. Tomatoes are planned for the first phase.
Knowledge and food security
Alongside exports, the project aims to strengthen Iceland’s food security and build knowledge in advanced agriculture.
Energy put to work
Geothermal heat, renewable electricity and clean water provide the resource foundation. High-tech greenhouses bring these together with climate control and efficient resource use.

Working with Landnýting
Landnýting is built by a team. For prospective partners, this site offers a closer look at one of its founders: decades of meeting people, publishing across many countries and bringing people together around new projects.
This site tells Halldór’s own story. Landnýting’s website introduces the whole team and the progress of the project.
