The story
While living in Johannesburg, Halldór founded History of South Africa with Ron Robinson. Together they published four books about Randburg, Johannesburg, Sandton and Port Elizabeth.
After returning to Iceland in 1993, he published Atlantic Destiny Iceland to introduce the country abroad. The English-language volume ran to 368 pages, with 10,000 copies printed. The publisher’s office was based in the Icelandic House of Commerce.
In 1995 he published Island – Ein Land mit vielen Möglichkeiten, a German-language book about Iceland. The Icelandic horse was a prominent subject in the publication.
The Nordic Book followed in 1996 after two years of development. Its 512 pages introduced Denmark, the Faroe Islands, Finland, Greenland, the Åland Islands, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. It appeared in English and Chinese, with the English edition also published online. A total of 26 ministers participated in the project.
In 1998, Slovenia was published in English and German, and online. It was the first of two publications about Slovenia; the second followed in 2008. Halldór also met Slovenian President Milan Kučan and Bishop Alojzij Uran.
